Facing the Storm

iStock_000007440404SmallWe can go through seasons of life when it is smooth sailing but then we see the winds pick up. Before we know it we can be caught in a storm that we had no idea was brewing. Seasoned sailors know that if they can’t get to dry ground, they should turn and face the storm, to give them a better chance of not capsizing.

We were made to flourish. God created us to bear His image and to thrive. He plucked us from eternity and placed us on the planet for mission.

Even when we wanted nothing to do with our creator, God loved us. He sent His love to earth to save us not condemn us. As we receive Jesus and His finished work on the cross, we become children of God upon whom the Father lavishes His love.

As we face the storms of life we can boldly come to the throne room of grace in time of need. Our Father God is our shield and great reward. The world may throw fiery darts at us but our shield will protect us from every one. No matter the trial, we can know that God will work it all out for good, and by His grace we will be victorious on the other side.

Matthew 8:23-24-

One day he and his disciples got in a boat. “Let’s cross the lake,” he said. And off they went. It was smooth sailing, and he fell asleep. A terrific storm came up suddenly on the lake. Water poured in, and they were about to capsize. They woke Jesus: “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”

Getting to his feet, he told the wind, “Silence!” and the waves, “Quiet down!” They did it. The lake became smooth as glass.
