We can try to fill ourselves up with the temporal things of this world to alleviate pain and fear deep down inside of us. Sadly, the things we often choose do not last: junk food, mindless entertainment, people’s drama, others’ approval, spending money and mood altering substances. There is one solution for the pain and fear at the core of our being and that is unconditional love.
We were made on purpose for a purpose. No matter what lie we believed, God destined us to be on planet earth and blessed us to grow, develop, flourish and thrive. God created us in His image and placed us in our time and location to reign.
Even though we became separated from God, His love for us never ended. He sent Jesus, love incarnate, to earth for us to restore us back to Him. When Jesus walked the earth, He healed the sick, fed the hungry, raised the dead, embraced the outcast, touched the leper and set the oppressed free. He revealed life connected to the Father for us.
Jesus went to the cross for you and me. He chose to die a criminal’s death even though He was innocent, so that we could exchange our identity as “separated” to His identity as “the beloved child of God.”
God raised Jesus from the dead and raised us with Him to ‘new life.’ Now we walk exonerated of our sins, failures and mistakes because of Jesus’ finished work at the cross. We can come to Jesus in prayer and exchange our imperfections, trauma, fear, worries and pain for His perfection, wholeness, peace and joy.
Everyday we can fill ourselves up in God’s unfailing, unending, unconditional love in prayer. The more we grasp that we are accepted in the “beloved” the more we will see peace settle into our core. We will walk free and light on the path to life, finding ourselves full of Jesus’ righteousness and abundantly supplied by grace.
Genesis 1:27-28 – So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
Romans 5:17 – For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!
2 Corinthians 5:20-21 – We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Matthew 5:6 – Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.
